Are you ready for our artistic adventure in Santa Fe?
Day 2, was a short 5 hour drive. On the way to Santa Fe, we actually stopped in a little town called Tucumcari. It was so much fun, we picked up some fun souvenirs at a really cool little shop called Tee Pee Curios in the heart of the town.
Arriving in Santa Fe
We arrived around 2 in the afternoon and we knew we had to hit the ground running. So our first stop was a late lunch. We grabbed some incredible chicken sandwiches and tacos from a place called Boxcar, which was voted one of the best sports bars in town. It was actually really good, even though the service was a tad bit slow. The food was worth the wait.
Headed to the museum
Our next stop was the Georgia O’keeffe museum, it closed at 5, and we made it just in time to snag the last 7 tickets for the 4 o’clock viewing. I had literal goosebumps as we walked around the museum. To see her artwork up close and personal and to get to witness beautiful artifacts from her life was truly a highlight for me on this trip. And I loved getting to use my graduate degree in art, by answering all of my family’s questions about her.
A mind-bending adventure
After taking it nice and slow at the O’keeffe museum, we were ready for some trippy fun, so we made our way over to Meow Wolf. Meow Wolf is like stepping into a different world full of surprises and wonders. It’s an interactive art experience where you become part of the story. You’ll explore incredible art installations, walk through secret passages, and discover mysterious things. From glowing caves to strange landscapes, Meow Wolf will make your imagination soar and your mind spin with excitement! We had the best time getting lost, and we were so mesmerized by all the colors and hidden compartments.
Time to rest
After spending 5 hours on the road, and cramming in as much fun as possible, it was time for us to rest, and we headed to a boutique hotel called, El Rey Court. This unique hotel has a cool retro style mixed with the charm of Santa Fe. The rooms are cozy and colorful, decorated with local artworks. You can take a dip in the pool, relax in the peaceful courtyard, or enjoy delicious food from the local restaurant pop ups. While we were there, they had a pizza company, called Tender Fire cooking pizzas in the wood fire oven, and it was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. It was truly the perfect place to recharge.
Final Thoughts
I truly wish we could have spent more time in Santa Fe. It is a beautiful city that celebrates art, and we’ve just scratched the surface of its creative wonders. This artistic adventure left us feeling inspired. I highly recommend you visit. Don’t forget to check our Day 1 adventures in Amarillo! Check back for our day 3 adventures!
